THE CITY SUN SETTING

The slow spreading winter sun
Descends as fire on roof top slate;
As the deliberate city is engulfed
Order dies, chaos the natural state.

At a high window, watching, talking,
I feel I’ve lost all power of choice;
But then I know a kind of peace,
For in that chaos I find my voice.
