INGLESHAM CHURCH AND OTHER POEMS
TEARS
Her tears of despair have offended
the passions that rule in my heart.
Which able no more to turn outward
masked as the love for another,
Must now turn shamefully inward
away from whom they would smother.
Her tears of despair have descended
and cooled this passionate heart
And as emptiness comes quickly between us
and we learn that we must depart,
(For no god has been ours to guide us)
I feel my love for her has not ended
But is about to begin as we part.
